Carlson Family

Missionaries with Covenant World Mission serving in Japan

Gary and Pauline Carlson are missionaries to Japan under Serve Globally of the Evangelical Covenant Church. They were called in the areas of church planting and evangelism by theCovenant Annual Meeting in June, 1983.

During their most recent term, (2012-2016), Carlsons have been part of the leadership team of Shonan Community Church (SCC) in Fujisawa, Kanagawa Prefecture. Having moved into an area with no church presence, the church recently celebrated their sixth year, having built trust with the neighbors through Sunday worship, children’s activities, music, English classes, and counseling. Special events like making kimuchi (Korean pickles) have been held, and the church has become known as a safe, welcoming place.

Jason and Lisa Como are serving with Christian Health Service Corps in Balfate, Honduras at Hospital Loma de Luz.

  • PAUL CARLSON PARTNERSHIP AND THE CONGO CLINIC INITIATIVE

2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the tragic martyrdom of Dr. Paul Carlson, a Covenant medical missionary to what is now known as the Democratic Republic of Congo. (In this article we're referring to this country as “Congo.”) As a young doctor, husband, and father, Paul Carlson stepped away from a promising medical career to answer a call from God to serve in the Congo. In a violent political uprising, Paul lost his life. Partnering with the Congo is a part of First Covenant's story. From supporting Covenant World Mission, sponsoring 50 children through “Covenant Kids Congo”, to our Team World Vision marathon runners bringing clean water to the Congo – our connection with our brothers and sisters in Congo continues to grow ( more >here ).
