Meet First Covenant's Leadership Team!

Hello, I'm Sharla and I am currently serving as chair of First Covenant St. Paul's leadership team. My family and I have been members here for about 11 years now. One of the things I love most about First Covenant is how we do community - with many partner organizations and with members from all backgrounds and walks of life. This place is busy, and while it can get hectic we move through life together in shared belief in Christ's sacrificial love for us all and a strong desire to share that good news with our neighbors near and far.

    Vice Chair

I've been at FCC for 10 years, my current role is the vice-chair for the Leadership Team. I really love the story of FCC, there are so many difficult things in this world and being a part of something that is truly trying to make it better and making a difference. It's not to say its all rosy but my end goal is to help us move forward in progress and understanding our Creator more and relate more deeply. Discussing how things play out and what venues and relationships can we build to further the kingdom is what gets me excited. I have been married for 16 years and have 3 kids from 4 years old to middle school. SO home life is a little busy, but I like to travel and see places, especially when those places include the state of Wyoming.

My wife and I have been attending FCC since 2007, with a four-year hiatus when my employment took us to Greater Minnesota. We continued to attend whenever we came back to the metro area. When we moved within driving distance, we were glad to begin attending regularly again and made FCC our home church. Now, having moved closer still, we welcomed the invitation to serve the FCC congregation by serving as secretary for the Leadership Team. FCC strikes the right balance for us between liturgy and thought provoking scriptural study. I live in White Bear Lake with Kate, my wife of 17 years, Rosemary (12) and Margot (3). We enjoy reading together, family dance parties, and being outside on bikes, canoes, or on foot.

I am a life-long member of First Covenant, baptized, confirmed, and married in this church. I love that our church wants to be an active part of our community, and teaches me constantly how to be a good neighbor. I am thankful that we are a congregation made up of a wide variety of ages, backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs, and that we still all learn from each other. My husband Peter and I have enjoyed volunteering with the First Cov youth for many years and lead a retreat in the Boundary Waters every winter. I am happiest when I am outside- playing with my dog, gardening, camping, biking, and log rolling.

I am Jorge Martinez. My family and I have been members at FCC for 7 years now. Currently, I am serving as a member of the Leadership Team, co-directing our musicals with students from many schools in the metro area, and feeling privileged to serve in other activities in our church. It makes me very happy that our community is strongly committed to opening our doors to others in a deep and truly Christian embrace as our Lord has taught us.

I first began attending FCC in 1963 while I was a student at Bethel College. My wife, Corrine, and I live in Shoreview. We enjoy worshiping at FCC. I am a long-time choir member and have been active in supporting Vietnamese and Hmong people who have come to our church over the last forty years. Corrine and I enjoy camping, canoeing, gardening and traveling.
