OUR IDENTITY, MISSION, VISION, and Values

IDENTITY

what it means to belong at First Covenant Church

We are a church deeply rooted in the Gospel and our local community who courageously:

  • pursues hope, justice, and freedom in Christ,

  • extends grace and love to a broken and divided world, and

  • invites all people to encounter the Living God.

mission

what we believe about life together at First Covenant Church

We seek to authentically live into our identity in Christ, empowered by the Spirit to embody the love of God and the hope of the Gospel locally and globally.

vision

what will become because of First Covenant Church’s identity and mission

We will see justice, mercy and reconciliation by receiving and extending the transforming love and peace (shalom) of Christ.

VALUES

Values are the things at the core of our identity that form and shape our life together. They provide the guardrails for making decisions, and leading us forward as we live out our Identity, Mission, and Vision as Christ followers at First Covenant Church of Saint Paul.

  • UNITY AND DIVERSITY

Every person is on a faith journey. Through the communal reading of Scripture, and a shared commitment to keep learning, we grow together amidst our differences to live as an increasingly connected family with many voices.

  • COURAGEOUS AND VULNERABLE

We invite people to come as they are. We welcome tough questions and honest dialogue as we pursue faithfulness to God’s leading in our life together.

  • INTEGRITY AND TRANSPARENCY

We attempt to live our lives authentically amidst our own brokenness and the challenging realities in our world.

  • EMPATHY AND JUSTICE

We demonstrate compassion as we move toward wholeness, recognizing empathy compels us to take action in the pursuit of justice in both individual lives and addressing systemic inequities.

  • HISTORIC AND INNOVATIVE

We treasure our rich history as a church on the East Side and those who came before us. Recognizing our imperfections, we consciously depend on the Holy Spirit's new and creative work in our community to lead us forward.

  • TRANSFORMATIVE AND COLLABORATIVE

We cannot accomplish our Vision alone. We work with strategic partners to build a better future for our community and be responsible stewards of all God’s creation.
