As we prepare to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus we journey through the entirety of Holy Week -- from the waving of palm branches at the triumphal entry on Palm Sunday, to the breaking of bread at Maundy Thursday, to a reflective service at the foot of the cross on Good Friday, all preparing us to encounter the miracle of an empty tomb anew. Click on the tabs below for some specific details related to Holy Week worship together.
HOLY WEEK AT FIRST COVENANT
PALM SUNDAY, APRIL 13 AT 9:30AM
Shouts of hosanna and waving palm branches begin our journey into holy week. Our children and choir are leading us in a special triumphal entry as we prepare our hearts to encounter Jesus anew this week. Stay for an important Congregational Update during Spiritual Growth Hour, including an opportunity to affirm new membership.
MAUNDY THURSDAY, APRIL 17 AT 6:30PM
Join us for a reflective evening service celebrating Jesus’ final meal with his disciples before his betrayal, arrest, and crucifixion. We will gather for a time to reflect, pray, worship, and share communion together.
GOOD FRIDAY WORSHIP, APRIL 18 AT 6:30PM
We gather for a reflective service. We will hear stories from those present during the events of Good Friday, share scripture, hear anthems and special music from our Easter and Handbell Choir in a worship service that has something for everyone.
EASTER SUNDAY WORSHIP, APRIL 20 AT 9:30AM
Rejoice
- he is risen indeed! We are celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus
Christ in worship. Come as you are as we worship together, welcome new
members, and receive a special offering for Covenant World Relief and
Development during worship. Covenant World Relief & Development
works through local partners around the world to reduce human suffering
for the most vulnerable people and support healthy communities. The
mission of Covenant World Relief & Development is to join God in
loving, serving, and working in relationship together with the poor,
oppressed, traumatized, and marginalized.
Our Sunday morning services last about 60 minutes. We have a variety of worship styles. You'll hear hymns and worship team songs, choirs and organ, and many things in between -- no week is exactly the same. Each service has worship that includes music, scripture, a message, prayers, and more.
Our parking lot provides ample parking space for everyone. Be aware that Arcade Street/Hwy 61 is undergoing construction. If you're approaching First Covenant southbound on 61 you’ll be re-routed through the neighborhood.
Our Sunday services include a Fellowship Time with treats, coffee, and tea following worship. On Easter Sunday you'll want to arrive before worship -- we have coffee, donuts, and a photo wall beginning at 9:00am. It's a party before worship! You won't want to miss it.
Wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable! Maybe you're in a
jeans-and-sweater kind of mood, or maybe you just scored a great deal
on the perfect Easter fit. Whether you want to go casual or dress it up a bit, your style will fit right in. We encourage you to come as you are.
Our nursery is open, and unstaffed, for most of our services. Please use this space for diaper changes, quiet feedings, and a place for your little one to re-set as needed. Our greeters will be happy to direct you. If you have specific questions, please reach out to Lora Murtha, minister to children and families.
On Sunday mornings, preK-2nd graders are invited to attend Children's Church midway through the service. This age-appropriate, fun and engaging time, brings our littles to a dedicated learning space to hear a Bible story and talk about it with one another together. Children return to their families during the closing song.
On Good Friday and Easter Sunday a children's message will be included in the worship service.
Join us for in-person and livestream worship sundays at 9:30am
